2018 Fall Festival of Quilts

Event Date:
Saturday, October 6, 2018
End Date:
Sunday, October 7, 2018

The featured quilters of the show are Alice Rasanen and Diane Burnett, who are a mother and daughter duo who started sewing by making clothes.  Alice went on to do alterations, doll clothes, upholstery and even draperies for model homes. Diane did some upholstery and alterations on a much smaller scale. Unbeknownst to either, they began quilting around the same time in the late 1970’s. Alice started in New York and Diane in New Hampshire. They're not sure when they realized it, but they have the quilters' guilds to thank in both states!

Alice has traveled all over the world and has made a quilt duplicating a cathedral floor, humorous quilts from a cousins bathroom wallpaper pattern, tiny pieced quilts with hundreds of pieces, seasonal wallhangings and many bed and charity quilts. Her local quilt guild is The Smithtown Stitchers on Long Island, NY.

Diane was interested in miniature quilts, cathedral window designs and workshop quilts, and many challenge projects. She has been a member of the Monadnock Quilters' Guild since the first meeting at Joseph’s Coat. Diane has served as President, Vice President, Treasurer, Quilt Show Chairman, Block of the Month and program planner.

Twenty eight Raffle Quilts will be on display for you to purchase tickets. You decide which one(s) you would like to win and fill out your tickets with the corresponding number. The winners will be picked Sunday afternoon. Good luck. (see photos below to choose your favorite)

The proceeds will go to aid the New Hampshire Childhood Cancer Lifeline. They provide much needed support to many families in the area.

Tickets will be on sale at the Quilt Show or from a Guild Member.

Sue Pelland - Guest Speaker

Event Date:
Friday, June 19, 2015

I’m Sue Pelland, mother, daughter, quilter, designer, lover of fabric! I have been a quilter for over 30 years now.  That makes me 80 or so right?  Not so. I started quilting at 12, alongside my Mom.   I’m still quilting and I’m happy to say, my mom is too! Thanks, Mom, for getting me interested in sewing, cooking, gardening, and of course quilting! I am very grateful for this gift, and being able to share that gift with so many others.

I am always trying to find new and better ways to teach quilting, and faster methods so busy quilters can get more done.  I have developed a new method of cutting applique shapes to make fast and beautiful quilts.   You can find the Leaves Galore templates on my products page.  You can order them right here on this website! http://suepellanddesigns.com/

Kristine Poor - Guest Speaker

Event Date:
Friday, April 18, 2014

Kristine Poor from Poorhouse Quilt Designs (http://poorhousequiltdesign.com/) visited the MQG at it's April monthly meeting. Her lecture was:

"Getting Past Quilter's Block"

She discussed ways we can stretch our thinking and planning of works to give us new challenges. This lecture included demos and show and tell from a trunk show.

Kristine uses materials like moldable interfacings, waterproofing materials, textile markers and much, much more. We will also see some of her designs, which she has been marketing since 2006.
